Last night was the Creative Lightning Awards Music Festival, which was organized by students in the School of Media & Strategic Communications at OSU. I was there as a photographer for the O’Colly, but the reason I took the assignment was because I love live music. I haven’t been a very active concert-goer since I’ve been going to school in Stillwater, because the types of acts that usually play here just aren’t really from genres I enjoy. But the performers last night definitely reminded me why I should be out at shows as often as possible.
There were a variety of genres represented at the CLA’s and I enjoyed each of them. My favorite band of the night had to be DEERPEOPLE, who brought a ton of energy to the stage and have an incredibly unique sound. The other acts performing were Kellee Cooper, Redland, Musical Genius, Eric Himan and Jabee.
There was a snag when the host of the event began making offensive comments between sets, but the organizers of the event pulled him from the show when they realized what was going on, and the incident, while shocking, didn’t put a damper on the rest of the evening. I joked that if nothing else the events class would have a good crisis case study to review in class next week.
I got some cool shots of each of the acts, which I’ll be posting below. Let me know what you think!
