When I woke up this morning to the news that OSU had lost Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna I was in shock. I thought it was some type of sick joke, losing two more cherished members of this University, and in the basketball program, no less, to a plane crash. And just ten years after the Ten lost their lives.

I never had any personal interaction with Coach Budke or Assistant Coach Serna, but I have attended many women’s basketball games in my time as a student at OSU, and I always admired the way Kurt Budke coached his girls. They were always encouraged, never mocked or yelled at. You could tell just by watching them interact that Kurt was loved deeply by all of his players.

My heart goes out to the families of Kurt and Miranda, and all of the individuals whose lives they touched. My thoughts are also with the friends and families of the other victims of the crash. May we all band together and support one another in times like these.

Very Sad. What wonderful people. They will be missed by all of the OSU family.
